Quantum back-action of variable-strength measurement

چکیده
Measuring a quantum system can randomly perturb its state. The strength and nature of this back-action depends on the quantity which is measured. In a partial measurement performed by an ideal apparatus, quantum physics predicts that the system remains in a pure state whose evolution can be tracked perfectly from the measurement record. We demonstrate this property using a superconducting qubit dispersively coupled to a cavity traversed by a microwave signal. The back-action on the qubit state of a single measurement of both signal quadratures is observed and shown to produce a stochastic operation whose action is determined by the measurement result. Quantum Control of a Single Qubit
Measurements in quantum mechanics cannot perfectly distinguish all states and necessarily disturb the measured system. We present and analyse a proposal to demonstrate fundamental limits on quantum control of a single qubit arising from these properties of quantum measurements. We consider a qubit prepared in one of two non-orthogonal states and subsequently subjected to dephasing noise. The ta...

In conventional quantum nondemolition measurements, the interaction between signal and probe preserves the measured variable. Alternatively, it is possible to restore the original value of the variable by feedback. In this paper, we describe a quantum nondemolition measurement of a quadrature component of the light field using a feedback compensated beam splitter. The noise induced by the vacuu...
متن کاملMeasurement Back-Action in Quantum Point-Contact Charge Sensing
Charge sensing with quantum point-contacts (QPCs) is a technique widely used in semiconductor quantum-dot research. Understanding the physics of this measurement process, as well as finding ways of suppressing unwanted measurement back-action, are therefore both desirable. In this article, we present experimental studies targeting these two goals. Firstly, we measure the effect of a QPC on elec...
متن کاملQuantum reference frames and deformed symmetries
In the context of constrained quantum mechanics, reference systems are used to construct relational observables that are invariant under the action of the symmetry group. Upon measurement of a relational observable, the reference system undergoes an unavoidable measurement ‘‘back-action’’ that modifies its properties. In a quantum-gravitational setting, it has been argued that such a back-actio...

Inhibition efficiencies of three amine derivatives (Diethylenetriamine (I), Triethylenetetramine (II), and Pentaethylenehexamine (III)) have been studied on corrosion of carbon steel using density functional theory (DFT) method in gas phase. Quantum chemical parameters such as EHOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital energy), ELUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy), hardness (η), po...
